Yuga Labs Proposes ApeCo to Replace ApeCoin DAO in Major Overhaul

Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has unveiled a proposal to dismantle the ApeCoin DAO and replace it with a new entity called ApeCo. CEO Greg Solano argues that while the DAO initially fostered growth, it has since devolved into inefficiency, with decision-making plagued by frivolous proposals and bureaucratic delays.

The plan calls for a complete dissolution of the DAO, stripping tokenholders of voting rights, voiding pending proposals, and halting governance activities. All assets—including ApeCoin, intellectual property, and infrastructure—will transfer to ApeCo, a Yuga-controlled entity designed to streamline operations and prioritize high-impact projects like ApeChain, BAYC, and the Otherside metaverse.

Solano framed the MOVE as critical to scaling "the most iconic brand in NFTs," positioning ApeCoin as the economic backbone of this vision. Community sentiment leans cautiously optimistic, with many anticipating faster execution under centralized leadership.
